Jerry Miller, PhD, is an Industrial-Organizational Psychologist. He is currently the Executive Director of the Evolution Institute, an international applied science think tank that created the East Tampa Academy, a school that was designed to solve the problem of children in low-income neighborhoods failing by 3rd grade. The first year’s assessment shows children have excelled in reading and math with more than a year’s academic growth.
A former businessman, he spent 18 years at the University of South Florida where he created and managed projects that served communities and youth in economic and job creation activities. He founded the College Link program that served about 2000 high school youth annually with tutoring and mentoring. He created micro lending programs, job development centers and led a nationally recognized juvenile justice program. He has been awarded over 25 grants and contracts and presented his work both domestically and internationally.
Michelle Shimberg has been a school policy activist for nearly twenty years, helping to shape policy and programs for the 8th largest school district in the country. She is twice the past president of Delta Delta Delta Fraternity, an organization of more than200,000 women. Among her many civic engagements, she serves as the President of the Board of the East Tampa Academy and is very involved in assuring the quality of the school.
